Walter S.DunbarJr, 80, of Abington, Massachusetts passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 3, 2022 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth Ma.
Born in Cohasset he was the son of the late Walter S. and Anna S. (Coburn) Dunbar.
Raised in Abington, he was a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1959. During his college years, he attended Suffolk University, undergraduate of Northeastern University and Bentley University graduating with a degree in accounting. He spent his career as an auditor at The United States General Accounting Office.
He loved to garden and continued his father’s love of horticulture and was a member of the MA Horticultural society and enjoyed attending yearly flower shows. He also collected stamps and coins. He was an avid reader of historical books. He truly enjoyed spending time with family on walks hosted by the American Volkssport Association as well as vacation times at Cape Cod and New Hampshire.
He was a member of The United Church of Christ in Abington where he frequently served as Deacon, the church’s notary public and also served to as auditor of the church’s financial reports for many years.
He was the husband of Nancy M (Jacobson) Dunbar for 53 years. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his loving children, Jennifer M. Anzivino and her husband George, Heather C. Dunbar and her partner Eric Gunnerson of Abington, Rachel E. Dunbar-Leal and her husband Gustavo of Framingham, Christopher S. Dunbar and wife Bonnie of East Bridgewater; grandchildren, Francisco Leal, Trevor Simmons and Matthew Dunbar; and brothers-in-law John M. (Jack) Bradlee and Mark A. Jacobson as well as many family members around the country. Loving brother of the late William Sanfilippo, Bertha Hill, Lillian Pierce, Jessie A. Bradlee, and Fred S. Dunbar and sister-in-law Barbara (Dunbar) Allsopp.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. Whitman, MA 02382 on Thursday, February 10, 5-8pm. Funeral service will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel on February 11 at 11 am with burial to follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
