Edward R. Walter, age 83, of Medford passed away on Saturday, February 5th, at Winchester Hospital. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Phillip and Hazel (Trask) Walter. Edward served for many years as a firefighter in Medford, retiring as a Lieutenant, and was very proud to have been presented with the key to the city. Edward was very funny and loved to joke around. He never complained, and always thought of others first. Edward also never boasted about his accomplishments, and didn’t seek credit for his good deeds. He was his daughter’s hero.
Edward was the beloved husband of Anne (Rosselli) Walter, and the devoted father of Edward J. Walter and his wife Karen of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Cheryl Harrington of North Reading. He was the loving grandfather of Andrew and Andrea Walter, and Jeffrey Harrington and his wife Stephanie. Edward was the adoring great grandfather of Harmonie Harrington. He was predeceased by his beloved dog, Shadow.
A funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Friday, February 11th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 10th from 4 through 8 PM. Interment will be private.
