Obituary

George Charles Bougopoulos, wonderful father of three, and grandfather to five, died peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2022 in his hometown of Nashua, NH, after complications arising from a long battle with COPD.

George was born July 26, 1947, in Boston, MA, to the dearly departed Vera and Charles Bougopoulos. He graduated Dedham High School in 1965 and subsequently served in the US Army Reserve from 1966-1971. Thereafter, George made his career, alongside his mother, in the supermarket business. Dedicated and loyal, he worked in the supermarket business until his retirement. George’s work ethic was infectious, and he often held employment in two full-time equivalent jobs while his children were young, in order to provide for them.

In his limited leisure time, George enjoyed running, watching television shows from the 1950s and 1960s, and taking his children on yearly vacations to Florida as a single father. He ran seven days per week at three miles per day for over twenty-five years, until sidelined by his COPD. Despite this setback, he continued to pursue fitness, with regular bike rides and physical therapy until recently. George recently devoted much of his time to his family, whom he always loved seeing in person, and when he could not, interacted with through the FaceTime app.

George is survived by his oldest son, Dr. Chris Poulos, a dentist in Fayetteville, NY, his wife Dr Ranjna Sharma, and their three children, Alexandra, Andrew and Nicholas; his daughter Dr. Melissa Thompson, a dentist residing in Tewksbury, MA, with her husband Brian, and their two children, Ryan and Cameron; his youngest son, Gregory Bougopoulos, an attorney residing in Bronx, NY, with his wife Sandra; his brother, David Bougopoulos, of Malibu, CA; nephew Nicholas Bougopoulos, of San Francisco, CA; and a number of acquaintances and other individuals he impacted with his kindness and caring demeanor, and respect to others, along the way.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org).

A celebration of George Bougopoulos’ life will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, March 25, 2022 at St William’s Catholic Church, 1351 Main St, Tewksbury, MA
