Obituary

BUCKLEY Michael G. 82, retired Town of Dedham, Police Sergeant, of North Attleboro, and Orlando, FL and longtime resident of Dedham, passed away in Wrentham, on February 5, 2022, while surrounded by his family. He was the son of Arthur and Helen (Cavanaugh) Buckley of Dedham.

Beloved husband of Denise (Huyler) Buckley and devoted father of Michael D. Buckley and his wife Sally (Maloney) of Dedham, Mitzi (Denise) Kane and her husband Michael of Dedham, Shelly MacDonald and her husband Daniel of Dedham, Katie Lyons and her husband Charles of Plainville, and Kristen Brinzo of Winter Park, FL. He leaves nine grandchildren Paul, Catherine, Sean, Alyssa, Olivia, Nicole, Daniel, Victoria, and Landon and 4 great children; Bridget, Jacob, Peighton, and Hailey.

Michael is a 1957 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and of Northeastern University in 1980.

Michael was appointed Special Police Officer in the Town of Dedham, starting his career on a walking beat in East Dedham. Michael’s position was made permanent in 1965 and in 1970, Michael was promoted to Sergeant. On August 15, 1988, Michael accepted the position of Police Prosecutor and was assigned to the Dedham District Court House, where he worked until his retirement on July 9, 2001.

Affectionately known for years as “The Top Sergeant” or “Top”, Michael was the patriarch of a large Public Safety family, which includes Michael’s father, Arthur, who was a Special Police Officer and Chief of the Auxiliary Police Department in Dedham, his son Michael D. Buckley (Deputy Chief of Police in Dedham), his brother-in-law, Richard Huyler (retired Dedham Police Officer), his son-in-law Michael Kane (retired Boston Police Detective), his grandson Sean Kane (Dedham Firefighter), and Nicole (MacDonald) Sheehan Bridgewater Police Officer.

Visiting hours will be held at the George. F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home 456 High St. Dedham on Thursday, February 10th from 4-8pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, February 11th at 8:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 9:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
