Patrick C. Hale of Middeboro, passed away on February 4th at Laurelwood at The Pine Hills in Plymouth after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 72.
He was the son of the late Verne Hale and Elaine (Hale) Zeiler. Patrick graduated from Bellflower, CA High School, earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Washington, an MBA from National University in San Diego and master of science and ocean engineer degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. He was a participant in Ito University and the Darden Executive Leadership program.
He completed a 22 year career in the US Navy serving as Lieutenant Commander, qualifying in both Surface Warfare and Submarine Warfare. Following his retirement from the Navy, Pat held executive level systems engineering positions in defense and commercial system and product development organizations including Director of Systems Engineering at both Draper Laboratory and Otis Elevator company, where he developed and implemented Otis’ first systems engineering process and organization. After leaving Otis, Pat was selected for the Director of the SDM fellows program position at MIT where he continued to work until his retirement. Pat also served as treasurer, president-elect and president for the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), a global professional society for systems engineers. Pat will be remembered for his outstanding leadership as well as his love of teaching and mentoring.
He is survived by his devoted wife Janet of 22 years, children Christopher and wife Ann Hale of Wiesenstr, Germany, Michael Hale of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Erin Post of Taunton, MA, Kerri and husband Kyle Nelson of Eatonville, Washington, Christina and husband Matthew Lounsbury of Mashpee, MA, Benjamin and wife Catherine Gasse of North Attleboro, MA and Daniel Gasse of Middleboro, MA, Grandpa to Maddox, Jonah, Mason, Charlotte, Alana, Alex, Amanda and fiancee John, Rory, Jack, Rachel and husband Dustin, Matthew and wife Katie, great granddaughter Isabella, sisters Diana and husband Henry, Karen and husband Rush and several nieces and nephews. The entire Hale family is most grateful for the kindness and outstanding care of the staff of Laurelwood Avita Memory Care.
Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Pat’s memory.
