Edith H. “Nikki” Barbarossa

Edith H. “Nikki” (Barnard)(Carino) Barbarossa, age 100, a resident of Tewksbury for 10 years, passed away at Bear Mountain of Reading on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

She was the beloved wife of the late Reynold Carino, who passed away in 1955 and the late John Barbarossa, who passed away in 2002.

Born in London, England on September 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Edward Barnard and the late Edith (Holmes) Barnard.

“Nikki” was raised and educated in the United Kingdom and served in the British Army. In 1945, she came to the United States and settled in East Boston. She later moved to Winthrop, where she lived until moving to Tewksbury in 2011.

Prior to retiring, she worked as teacher at the Trinity Neighborhood House in East Boston.

“Nikki” enjoyed traveling to England and playing cards.

She was the mother of Stephanie E. Hanley and her late husband Eugene, of Tewksbury, Raymond A. Carino and his wife Donna, of Clarkston, WA, and the late William R. Carino. Grandmother of Jennifer E. Hanley and Eric E. Hanley and his wife Michelle: Great Grandmother of Paige Duquette, Anthony Papia, Emma, Aiden, Ayla Hanley, Elise Torpey, Nicholas and Mia Antonellis. Nikki was the sister to the late William and Edward Barnard.
She leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Her family is planning a Memorial Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury. Date and time of the Mass will be announced on this website once determined by her family.
