Lionel DaCosta Selman
(May 21, 1939 - January 31, 2022)
Lionel DaCosta Selman, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 82, peacefully at home in Brockton, MA on January 31, 2022. Lionel was born on May 21, 1939, on the island of Barbados in the West Indies to George Fitz Albert Selman and Louise Victoria Williams. Lionel migrated to the United States in 1944 as a young child with his mother.
After attending and graduating from Wentworth Institute, Lionel dedicated his early career to serving others through his trade as a carpenter and builder. He also worked for twenty-three years as a valued and dedicated member of the KFC Corporation, as a specialized cook. Lionel met and married Theresa Commodore in 1992 while serving as a Deacon at their place of worship - World Gospel Temple (WGT).
They celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on June 20, 2021.
Lionel-“Papi” “Selly” “Brother Lionel'' - as he was affectionately called by those who served in life and ministry with him and knew him as a “Prayer Warrior” and a “True Worshiper”. Lionel served at New Covenant Christian Church (Jubilee) of Mattapan as an altar worker, usher, and cell group leader alongside his wife for close to a decade. In more recent years, he was a founding member and Deacon at Victory World Church International of Stoughton. Lionel believed that prayer and the power of your words would activate the Hand of God in any situation. Beyond serving in ministry, he loved to read his Bible, listen to music, work out daily, share encouraging words and reminisce with anyone that needed it. He was a positive and jovial lover of people.
In addition to his parents, Lionel was predeceased by his son Lance Selman and daughter Veronica “Buffy” Selman. Lionel leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife Theresa Selman and his children Nathania Onyeagoro, Karen Selman, Tanya Selman, Trent Selman, and his eight siblings: Dennis Selman, Ismay Phillips, Cecelia Waithe, M. Anita Ray (Roy), George Selman Jr. (Victoria), Darnley Selman, Daisy Thompson (Curtis), and Carmen Greene (Brian). In addition he leaves one aunt, Muriel Williams, and grandchildren: LeVerne Arthur (Artie) Selman (Tatiana), Kayla Ariana Selman, Graeson O. Theork, Daiquian Bruce, Dasia Butler, great-grandchildren: Amair Lewis, Amani Sledge, Ajani Williams, Melina Bruce, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins to carry on his Legacy of advancing the Kingdom of Jesus Christ through worship, warfare, and witnessing.
