Sara Tyson Giddens Phillips, 96, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, February 4, 2022, at her daughter’s residence in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Greg Pope officiating. The family will receive friends after the services at the cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was the youngest of six children, born August 14, 1925, in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late John & Laura Mathis Tyson. After high school she received an Associates degree from Valdosta State College for women. She was a homemaker and was a medical clerk for Dr. Luckie. Mrs. Phillips was a Pink Lady for 17 years and served President of the Dorminy Medical Center Auxiliary for one year. She loved her family, friends and church and working with flowers. She was also a member of a garden club. Mrs. Phillips was one of the oldest members of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, where she taught GA’s and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class and she served on the Benevolent committee. She was a true Southern Lady.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail & Johnny Giddens of Fitzgerald; a son, John & Gloria Giddens of East Point, Florida; a step-daughter, Joy Phillips Quinn of Evans; grandchildren: Angel Giddens Lee & Brandon, Chris Giddens, Brooke Young & Kyle, Doug Giddens, Alec Giddens & Charleen, Ian Giddens, Courtney Giddens Amison & Ottice, Alicia Crites & Travis, Jessica Kummer & Jason and Bryan Pickens & Erin; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Randall Giddens and James Phillips and five brothers and sisters.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Homestead Hospice and the caregivers: Elizabeth, Lindsey, Corena and Loretta.
