Carol Culpepper, 86, of Abbeville, Georgia, died Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Stubbs Cemetery in Abbeville, Georgia, with the Rev. Dr. Warren Burnham, the Rev. Chuck Taylor, and the Rev. Brian Jones officiating. The family will receive friends after the services.
Mrs. Culpepper was born December 1, 1935, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late M.D. & Rebecca Wilson Tomberlin. She graduated in 1953 from Abbeville High School, where she was the class Treasurer and later attended business college in Abbeville. She was a waitress at the Bowens Mill restaurant and worked as a bookkeeper for several auto dealerships: Dorsey Wood Chevrolet in Abbeville, Dunlap Chevrolet in Macon, and Moody Ford in Warner Robins. She worked for over twenty years as the City Clerk in Abbeville as well as the Director of the Housing Authority in Abbeville. Mrs. Culpepper was a charter member of the Optimist Club and served as treasurer of Stubbs Cemetery for many years. She was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU.
She is survived by her children: Mike & Debbie Sherret of Fitzgerald, Gerry Lynn Griffin of Fitzgerald and Ronald & Amy Culpepper of Abbeville; grandchildren: Brian Sherret & Megan of Americus, Justin Griffin of Denver Colorado, Hannah Griffin of Fitzgerald, Emma Culpepper and Weston Culpepper, both of Abbeville; and great-grandchildren: Willoe Padgett, River-Dawn Padgett, Asa Sherret and Karter Sherret. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Odis Lee Culpepper and a sister, Gwendolyn Clark.
