HAWLEY – Therese L. “Terry” (Chartier) Desmarais, 90, of Hawley and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, February 3, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Mission Care at Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Pendleton Avenue in Chicopee on January 5, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Andre and Viola (Goddu) Chartier. She was raised in Chicopee, attended Chicopee High School and lived in Aldenville until 1994 when she moved to “God’s Country” in Hawley. She was a longtime Purchasing Agent for the City of Chicopee for many years and retired in 1994. Her home was always open to her family and her many friends and always enjoyed a good Southern Comfort Manhattan. Above all, she cherished her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and Saint Christopher Mission Church in Charlemont. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Richard G. “Dick” Desmarais. They were married on April 11, 1953 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, David R. Desmarais and his wife, Sherry Fowler, of Savoy, Debra A. LaFlamme and her husband, Bruce, of Granby, and Dean F. Desmarais and his wife, Maria, and Donna M. Lemoine and her husband, Wayne, all of Hawley; her nine cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Melissa Desmarais, Ami Desmarais, Philip LaFlamme and his wife, Alyssa, Robert LaFlamme and his partner, Ryan Purdy, Nathan LaFlamme and his wife, Tara, Ashley Smith and her husband, Jeffrey, Brad Desmarais and his wife, Amber, Katie Gould and her husband Tim, and Steven Lemoine and his wife, Kait; her twelve cherished great-grandchildren, Malek, Shakur, Andre, Peyton, Evan, Noah, Penny, Zack, Phoebe, Bennett, Tabitha, and Cooper; her dear brother, Leo Chartier and his wife, Ingrid, of Greenfield; her dear sister in law, Joan LeBlanc and her husband, Normand, of Vero Beach, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers in law and sisters in law, Francis X. Desmarais and his wife, Doris, Gertrude Voss and her husband, Fred, Roger Desmarais and his wife, Kay, Rose Lamontagne and her husband, Roger, Eileen Plouffe Gosselin and her husbands, Henry Plouffe and Edward Gosselin, and Agnes Desmarais. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private at the convenience of her family. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
