Robert L. Tarnowski of Peabody, MA (originally of Salem, MA) beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022 following a brief illness. His infectious smile, spirited humor, and loving personality will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Born in Salem, MA to the late Stanley Tarnowski and Emelia (Jankowski) Tarnowski, Robert served for the U.S Navy in the South Pacific during World War II aboard a PT boat,and later served as a K9 Patrolman for the Salem Police Department for25 years. His love for his time in the Navy and for his beloved police K9s were evident by all the stories and memories he would often share. Robert shared 74 wonderful years of marriage with his wife Eleanor (Theriault) Tarnowski with whom he always called “the love of his life”. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed building boats and boating, fishing,building model ships and planes, and spending time with his family. His love of sweets and his constant effort to make those around him smile and laugh will be deeply missed.
After a loving lifetime together, Robert was predeceased by the love of his life, Eleanor on January 28, 2022.Robert is survived by his five children: three daughters, Eleanor Marquis of Derry, NH, Arlene Meaney of Salem, MA, Sharon Copelas and husband Christopher Copelas of Salem, MA, and two sons, Robert Tarnowski and wife Jacqueline Tarnowski of Salem, MA, and Brian Tarnowski and wife Catherine Tarnowski of Newfields, NH. Robert is survived by his grandchildren: Kerrie Moraites, Robin Farrin, Michael and Stephen Meaney, Amanda, Justin, and Diana Tarnowski, Alyssa and Kaitlin Copelas, and Joseph and Lydia Tarnowski as well as his great-grandchildren: Syrah, Jenny, Alec, Charlie, Landon, and Jack. Robert was predeceased by his brothers Stanley Tarnowski and Edward Tarnowski.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services will be private for immediate family at this time.
