NEW BEDFORD: William “Billy” Lima, 87, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 27, 2021. Mr. Lima, a U.S. Army veteran, travelled the world with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Merchant Marines. In his younger years, Billy was an avid soccer player, and in later years, he played golf regularly and was a member of the former Heritage Hill Country Club (now known as the Back Nine Club) in Lakeville, Mass.
Billy was a lifelong sports fan, especially of the four Boston professional teams. He loved music and was a singer with a gentle, smooth singing voice. Billy loved to tell tales of his travels around the world, such as Scotland, Malta, Portugal, and South America. Billy also enjoyed spending time in his workshop, crafting many tools that helped him accomplish household maintenance tasks.
Mr. Lima will be laid to rest with full military honors on February 9, 2022, at 12:45 p.m., at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. Guests are welcome to attend.
