Obituary

Carlos Alberto Cerqueira, 68, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, unexpectedly after a brief illness at Lowell General Hospital.

He was born on June 30, 1953 in Faial, Azores, Portugal. He was raised and educated in Faial and served in the Portuguese military. He came to the United States in the 1970’s, first settling in Cambridge and later Lowell, where he remained for the rest of his life.

Carlos worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1989 until his retirement in 2019. He was a maintenance technician with the Massachusetts Court System facilities first in Boston, then Cambridge and finally Lowell, where he was employed for the past 19 years. He was a true outdoorsman, he loved time spent camping or fishing, especially with his family.

Mr. Cerqueira is survived by his son, Victor Cerqueira of Cambridge, his siblings, Salome DaSilva and her husband, Amandio, of Lowell, Maria Jacome and her husband, Joice, of Somerville, Manuel Cerqueira and his wife, Anna, of Andover, many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

He was the brother of the late Antonio G. Cerqueira.

In accordance with the City of Lowell mandate, masks are required during his visitation from 9 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8 at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.

His Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell, MA. A procession will follow for burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
