Kenneth Freeman “Ken” Gillam passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2022, at the age of eighty-six surrounded by family. He is survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen “Kay” O’Connor, four children: Andrew, Andrea, Daniel, and Kenneth, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is beloved by his many nieces and nephews and their children who all refer to him affectionately as “Unc”. Ken was born on August 8, 1935, in Medford, Massachusetts to Florence and George Gillam. Ken attended Medford high school where he excelled in furniture and finish carpentry; graduating at the top of his class and igniting a passion for the craft that he would carry throughout his life (even building himself a carpentry shop within the basement of his home). Medford High School is also where Ken met his future wife and mother to his children, Helen Gillam (Tallent). After high school, Ken enlisted in the Army national guard and was a Teamster within Airco Industrial Gas for eighteen years before owning and captaining a lobster trawler and beginning a fourteen-year career as a commercial Lobsterman out of Boston. Those who knew Kenneth in life say they will always remember him for his tenacious spirit and sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
