Steven M. Vacca passed away on January 31, 2022 at the age of 64. Steve was born in Ventura on September 6, 1957. He attended Montalvo Elementary, Anacapa Junior High, Buena High School, graduating in 1975, and Ventura College. He was a mechanic , specializing in agricultural machinery and was active in his family’s farming operation in Camarillo.
Steve lived on property where his German Great Grandfather Christian Borchard lived and farmed in Camarillo. Borchard immigrated to California in the Gold Rush and moved to the Oxnard area in 1867 when it was still Santa Barbara County. Borchard is recognized by local historians as the “First Farmer of the Oxnard Plain.”
As a youth, Steve was in Boy Scouts, Little League and the 4-H Youth Program, raising sheep and steers for the Ventura County Fair Auction.
Steve was a member of the Ventura County Topa Topa Flywheelers antique farm tractor and engine club, served on the Board of Directors and volunteered on club projects.. With his mechanical skills and special interest, Steve was active with the Santa Paula FFA tractor restoration project and was a member of the restoration team working with the Ventura County Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula. One of Steve’s favorite volunteer activities was driving an antique tractor pulling wagons of visitors at Underwood Farms during Easter and Halloween festivals. The Tractor club often honored him as the member with the most volunteer hours at those events.
Steve faithfully took his father to breakfast once a week and enjoyed having breakfast with his tractor friends at favorite Camarillo restaurants. He loved dogs from an early age. His last dogs -Charley, Lucy and Ted were his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Charles Vacca and is survived by his mother Fern Vacca and sister Lynn Vacca. A private memorial is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, Ventura.
