Truman “Glenn” Sipes
It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that his family announces the passing of longtime Ventura resident Truman “Glenn” Sipes on January 28, 2022. He passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side.
Glenn was born in Yuma, Arizona on August 31st, 1931 to Truman and Lavenia Sipes. He was the oldest of four children, always looking out for his younger sisters. He graduated from Taft High School in 1948 and went on to join the U.S. Navy.
After spending four years in the Navy, Glenn joined his parents in Santa Paula where he worked in sales in the oil fields industry. He met his first wife, Rosemary and together they had three children, Glenda, Michael, and Marc.
Glenn had a fondness for the movies that lasted his entire life. This passion led him to pursue a career in acting, his first feature film was PT109 in 1963. He appeared in several movies, commercials, tv shows as well as local plays throughout his acting career. When he wasn’t pursuing his dream, he was running his successful record shop “The Music Box” that was on Main Street in Ventura for over twenty years.
It was at The Music Box that Glenn met Mary Webster Gruell, they married in 1974 and began a loving marriage. Together they traveled all over the world, made countless memories, and were the perfect complement to each other.
Glenn was an active person throughout his life, he and Mary spent many weekends skiing in Mammoth, playing Tennis, dancing, and later in life playing Golf together at various courses including Spanish Hills where they were members for many years.
Later in life, he began a career in Real Estate and in 1990 he co-founded RE/MAX Gold Coast with his dear friend, Fred Evans. They built a successful company that is one of the most highly respected real estate firms in Ventura County. He was extremely proud of all of the agents that he and Fred cultivated over the years, always happy for their successes.
Glenn was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan; he was a season ticket holder who rarely missed a game whether in person or on TV. He and Mary traveled all over the country to see different teams and stadiums.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Truman & Lavenia, wife Mary, sister Myrna, daughter Glenda, brother-in-law Ray, stepson John, and brother Terry.
He leaves behind his sons, Michael (Natividad) Sipes and Marc (Kate) Sipes, Stepson Ron Gruell (Sharon) as well as his sister Beverly Shoemate, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Marjoree for her kindness and care of Glenn. She was a devoted friend that made a positive impact on his life.
Glenn was a charismatic and generous man who had a zest for life, he lived each and every day to the fullest. In his words, “Life is for the living,” he wouldn’t want his family or friends to dwell on sadness.
A remembrance and celebration of Glenn’s life will be held at Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo located at 999 Crestview Ave., Camarillo, on Thursday, February 10th at 3:30pm – 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenn’s memory may be made to the Children's Miracle Network c/o Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
