Richard M. Harvey, 90 of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Advinia Care Salem, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Ellen F. (Riley) with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Rose M. (Pelletier) Harvey. Richard served in Germany with the Army during the Korean War. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked in auto repairs in Malden for several years. In 1967 he began working in maintenance for the former Naumkeag Trust Company in Salem. Richard began working for the Salem Housing Authority January 30, 1981 and retired as Maintenance Supervisor on December 31, 2002. He and Ellen had a passion for yard sales and flea-markets both as seekers and vendors. The devoted couple were inseparable.
Richard is survived by two brothers, Reverend Wilfred K. Harvey, OMI of Lowell and Raymond A. Harvey of Salem, as well as a niece and four nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 AM on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave, Salem at 11:00 AM. Burial and Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. All guests are requested to wear protective masks indoors.
