Obituary

Winnifred “Winnie” (Higgins) Robinson, 96, a lifelong resident of Whitman, died peacefully at home with her loving daughter at her side on Wednesday January 26, 2022, after a short illness. She was the beloved wife for 67 years to the late Lincoln Robinson.

Born and raised in Whitman, she was the daughter of the late Byron and Bernice (Randall) Higgins and a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1943.

She was very close to all her sisters and brothers and had a very close friendship with a handful of girls; Carol, Nancy, Leah, Eloise and Marion, just to name a few. “Tuesday Luncheons” with her sisters and cousins were a big part of Winnie’s life. Every Tuesday they would take turns at a different house for lunch and long talks. The men would head off to Christo’s for lunch on those particular days!

Winnie’s first position after high school was with the former New England Telephone Company in the Jenkins Block in Whitman. Later in 1963, she went to work part-time for Ocean Spray in Hanson, never dreaming it would lead on to Plymouth and Lakeville for 33 years. She was the cafeteria manager and had enjoyed her job immensely. Winnie came to know everybody and their favorite foods and dislikes. After retiring from Ocean Spray, she went on to work for 2 more years at Cranberry World in Plymouth, handing out cranberry food samples to the tourists.

She enjoyed going dancing with her husband, sisters and her in-laws. One of the favorite spots was the Inn for All Seasons in Plymouth. She and Lincoln were members of the Ball & Chain Bowling League for 25 years, never missing a Friday night. They enjoyed summers at White Horse Beach with all the relatives and later at the summer home in West Dennis.

Winnie was a devoted and active member of the Whitman Congregational Church, where she had just earned her 75-year pin. She sang in the church choir where she met her husband, Lincoln. She belonged to the Chi Kappa, Everson Club and Capron Club and was always helping in the kitchen for church fairs and luncheons. She was also a member of the Whitman Women’s Club, the Garden Club and had enjoyed the Historical Society for many years.

Winne is predeceased by her husband Lincoln and son Andrew. She leaves her daughter Wendy and many loving nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Byron and Charles Higgins, Gwendolyn Meier, Alverda Ricker, Pauline Higgins and Joanne Tucker.

Wendy would like to give a special thank you to Hospice Services of Massachusetts for the past year of warmth and kindness shown to her mom, specifically Laura, Erica, Jessica and the two Bills.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Services of MA, 10 Riverside Drive, Suite 201, Lakeville, MA 02347 or to the Congregational Church of Whitman, 519 Washington Street, Whitman, MA 02382.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Congregational Church in Whitman.
