Anna “Pauline” Ledford Burns, a resident of Tifton for over 40 years, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2022. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Burns at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery in Columbus, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Ronnie Vice will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Pauline was born on July 10, 1923, in Marietta to the late Asbury and Mattie Wills Ledford. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, James Carr and her second husband, James Burns; and four children, Ann Carr, James Carr, Sandra Carr and Bobby Carr; along with five sisters; and three brothers. Upon moving to Tifton, Mrs. Burns worked in the cafeteria at Tift County Junior High School for 14 years, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She grew up on her family’s farm in Sumner. In 1940, at the age of 17, found Pauline making bombs in Macon for the war effort. Pauline, 98 years young when she passed, was the oldest member of Grace Baptist Church.
Pauline is survived by one son, Paul Burns of Anna Maria Island, Florida; one sister, Margaret Clements of Tifton; a daughter-in-law, Linda Carr of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two grandchildren, Paula Haders and James Carr; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
