John F. Kelly, Jr., age 92 of Brockton, died peacefully, January 28, 2022. John was the loving husband of the late Betty Ann (Carlson) Kelly. Lifelong of Brockton, he was the son of the late John F. and Louise (Hayes) Kelly.
He was a 1947 graduate of Brockton High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Stonehill College in 1952 and continued to be an involved Alumni. Following graduation, John enlisted in the Navy and served in Europe.
A longtime employee of Liberty Mutual Inc., in Boston, he retired in 1994 after 35 years as a Director of Commercial Property.
John was a great supporter of Brockton High School Athletics and one of the founding members of the Brockton Sports Foundation/Save our Sports in 1992 and served as its treasurer for many years. As a member of the Football Boosters, he attended countless Brockton High sporting events, and in 2002 he was inducted into the Brockton High School Hall of Fame.
John was an avid Red Sox fan and every spring would travel to Florida with friends to watch the team’s opening game. He also enjoyed spending Saturday nights with the “Lively Ones”, summers in West Dennis with family and vacations in Martha’s Vineyard with friends.
John was the father of Paula Lyon and her partner Wayne Crowley of Brockton, Robert Kelly of Brockton and the late Patricia O’Donnell; father in law of the late Kevin O’Donnell and grandfather of Derek Lyon and his partner Paige Parsens, Erin DeChristopher and her husband Michael, Kelly Lyon and her partner John Costa, Ryan O’Donnell and his partner Elizabeth Silva and Brianne O’Donnell. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday, February 3 from 3:30-6:30pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 9am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
