CHICOPEE – Yvon Mathieu, 91, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 22, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada on July 15, 1930, a beloved son of the late Alphonse and Yvonne (Arsenault) Mathieu. He was raised and educated in Canada and moved to Chicopee in the late 1940’ s. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the Fourth Troop Carrier Squadron and attained the rank of Airman First Class. He furthered his education and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He was employed as an Internal Revenue Agent with the United States Internal Revenue Service. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Therese (Lambert) Mathieu who was Called Home on February 14, 2021. They were married on September 1, 1956 at L’Eglise de Saint Gabriel-Laleme in Victoriaville, Province of Quebec, Canada and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving son, Charles A. Mathieu of Westfield; his three cherished grandsons, Kyle, Justin and Alex Mathieu; his three dear sisters in law, Aline Perreault , Marie Anne Giguere and Colette Lambert, all of Canada; his dear brother in law, Raymond Lambert and his wife, Janine, of Canada; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members in the United States and Canada. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his loving son, Guy Yvon Mathieu who was Called Home on November 15, 2004; his loving daughter in law, Gina (Bousquet) Mathieu who was Called Home on April 30, 2002; and his dear brother, Jean-Nils Mathieu. His visiting hours and funeral services will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
