Robert G. Howard, Jr., 83

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Robert G. Howard, Jr., age 83, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and care of his son on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene (Lonergan) Howard, to whom he was wed on August 13, 1971 at the Bluebird Motel and Cottages in Laconia, New Hampshire.

Born in Middleboro, MA on November 27, 1938, he was a loving son of the late Robert G., Sr. and Grace A. (Weeman) Howard.

Bob grew up in Middleboro and was a 1957 graduate of Middleboro High School. During the Vietnam Era, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1961-1965 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman First Class, E4.

In 1976, Mr. Howard graduated from Northeastern University with an associate and bachelor’s degree in accounting. He worked for over forty years as an Accountant at the Foxboro Co. and later at Mansfield True Value Hardware.

Bob was a member and Past Master of the Abraham H. Howland, Jr. Masonic Lodge A.F & A.M. in New Bedford, as well as the Angle Tree Stone Rod & Gun Club in North Attleboro and the Mansfield Congregational Church. He enjoyed oil painting, fishing, playing cribbage, cards, country music, dining out at the Cheng-Du Restaurant in Mansfield, the Ninety-Nine Restaurant in Foxboro and being a longtime timeshare owner in Laconia.

Robert’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the Veterans Administration for all the help and support given to him throughout the years of his illness.

He is survived by his devoted son Patrick J. Howard of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of the late Martha L. Howard and is also survived by his cousins.

Relatives and friend are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, February 2nd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

A graveside burial service, along with military honors, will be held at a later date to be announced at the Central Cemetery in Middleboro.
