Our community has sadly lost a pillar. Consuelo A. Cortes , 83, died in her home at Walnut Street in Oxnard in the early morning of January 19th, 2022. Known to many as “Connie”, she was a graduate of Southwestern Medical School in Cebu City in the Philippines. She practiced in the field of Obstetrics and delivered many babies during this time.
In 1966 she met Floro P. Cortes, Sr. at Saint Catherine’s hospital in Manila where she was a resident physician and soon married. Floro, Sr. joined the United States Navy and Connie accompanied her husband to The United States. Connie and her family built and worked for 40 years serving the mentally and developmentally disabled individuals living in residential care facilities. Floro Cortes, Jr., is the only child of Floro P. Cortes, Sr., and Consuelo A. Cortes. He worked and managed the business alongside his mother until she passed away.
He is survived by his son, ex-husband, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, cousins, and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and oldest sister Luisa Arboled. Friends and family are invited to a visitation service taking place at the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE on Main St. in Ventura on Wednesday, February 2 starting at 4pm with a rosary taking place at 7pm. A funeral service will take place the following morning at 11am at the funeral home. The family welcomes flowers and cards to be sent to the funeral home at 757 East Main Street, Ventura.
