Evelyn Margaret (Barrieau) Howe, 89, of Franklin died peacefully January 25 with loved ones by her side. She was the wife of the late John P. Howe, Sr. who died in 1980.
Born in Chelsea, January 3, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Christine (Richard) Barrieau, Evelyn grew up in Readville where she received a Catholic primary and secondary education.
In 1964 she and her husband settled in Franklin, raising their seven children.
Evelyn worked for over 20 years at Corning Medical in Medfield before retiring at the age of 62.
Evelyn enjoyed retirement, travelling with family and friends, volunteering at the Franklin Public Library teaching English as a second language, and later for the Franklin Recreational Department.
She was active with the Franklin Senior Center, and a member of the Trailblazers walking group, and spent every Wednesday with the “Wednesday Girls” enjoying luncheons and laughs.
Evelyn is survived by her seven children, John P. Howe Jr. and his wife Rani of Brooks, Maine, Stephen Howe of Millis, Edward Howe and his wife Jane of Holden, Carol Cormier and her husband Drew of Spencer, Donna Somers and her husband Stephen of Webster, Diane Porter and her husband Chuck of Whitinsville, George Howe of Franklin and his partner Wade Zahares of Lyman, Maine.
Evelyn is also survived by her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and her sister Marie Barrieau of Boston.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 1 in St. Joseph Church Medway at 10:30a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.
