Joseph A. Pittello, age 91, passed away on January 26, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on September 22, 1930 in Kulpmont, PA, a son of the late Anthony and Theresa (Nestico) Pittello. Joseph served in the US Air Force for over 20 years. He retired from the military as a Senior Master Sgt., 8th Recon.Tech. Squadron, achieving Outstanding Airman of the Year. He worked for the City of Chicopee for 9 years as a cartographer. He also worked as a custodian for the US Post Office where he retired after many years. Joseph was a communicant of Holy Name Parish where he served as a collector for a number of years. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council #69 in Chicopee becoming a Fourth Degree Knight, member of the Arch Williams Assembly No.338. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Esther (Oestreich) Pittello of Chicopee; 1 son, Ralph Pittello and his wife Diane Peebles-Pittello of Southwick; 4 daughters, Victoria “Vicky” Dube and her husband Dennis of Chicopee; Patricia Bousquet and her husband Gary of Chicopee; Josephine Turcotte and her husband George of Chicopee and Susan Drewniak and her husband Darrell of Chicopee; 1 brother Sam Pittello of Coal Township, PA; 10 grandchildren; 5 great granddaughters along with many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his siblings Dominic, Tony, Charlie and Victoria. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 104 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA 01013.
