Homer I. Sawyer, 94, passed peacefully at home in Lakeville, MA, on January 17, 2022. He was the husband of the late Shirley M. (Steward) Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his sister Marion and his brothers, Raymond Sawyer and Carl Sawyer.
Born and raised in Newport, ME, the son of the late William L. Sawyer and Myrtle I. (Stevens) Sawyer, he raised his family in Pittsfield, MA, where he was employed by General Electric for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. While in Pittsfield, he was a member of the Berkshire Soaring Society, South Congregational Church, and a member of the Pittsfield Masonic Lodge.
He and Shirley retired to Skowhegan, ME, where they were active in founding and supporting the Skowhegan Community Food Cupboard. They later relocated to Massachusetts, eventually settling with family in Lakeville, MA, where they were active members of the Nautical Whalers Parrothead Club.
Mr. Sawyer served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in the occupation of Japan, following the secession of hostilities of World War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen L. S. Corbett and her husband, James E. Corbett, Jr., of Lakeville; a son, William S. Sawyer and his wife Barbara J. B. Sawyer of Midlothian, VA; six grandchildren, Brian Sawyer, Beth (Sawyer) Kobus, James E. Corbett, III, Liam Corbett, Katherine (Corbett) Leech, and Taylor Corbett; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emberlyn, Henry, Aurora, James IV, Owen, Maximus, and Robert; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held in Skowhegan, ME at a later date.
