Albert Charles Governor of Needham entered into his eternal life on January 24 at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Marie (Chisholm) Governor. He was the devoted father of Jean-Marie Mullen (Robert) of Needham, Mark Governor of San Francisco, Paul Governor of Needham, Kathleen Nash (William) of Wrentham, Michael Governor of Boston, and Janet Luce (Thomas) of West Barnstable. He was the proud “Papa” of seven cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Cronin, Karen Broderick, Erin Holden, Patrick Nash, Katie Cardoso, Kerry Nash, and Daniel Mullen. His twelve “dearly loved” great grandchildren: Sophie, Grace, Ella, Rose, Abby, Lexie, Liam, Emily, Ryan, Jake, Owen, and Kinsley brought much joy and laughter into their beloved Papa 2’s life! Also survived by loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends!
Al was a member of the first graduating class of the University of MA, Amherst in 1951. He took pride in his service in the National Guard at Fort Dix. In his early professional years he was the Assistant Editor of “Animal” magazine at the MSPCA in Boston. Al was a dedicated and admired English teacher at King Philip Regional Jr. High School in Wrentham. He was a faith-filled parishioner at St. Joseph Parish in Needham for many years. In his retirement, he enjoyed many happy years full of laughter and fun adventures with family and friends, at his treasured Cape Cod, where he found peace and contentment! Al will be greatly missed by all!
Visitation is to be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave, Needham on Sunday January 30th from 4-7PM. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 1352 Highland Ave, Needham on January 31st at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
