Virginia (Ginny) F. (Lang) Callaghan of Canton age 90 passed away January 25th surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, she was raised in Brighton and graduated from St. Columbkille High School. She was married to her loving husband Paul for over 70 years. They were each other’s soul mates and best friend. Ginny worked as a waitress at Schrafft’s in Boston, IHOP in Brighton & Gordon’s in Stoughton. She lived in Canton & Florida for the last 47 years and volunteered in many settings including Rehab centers in Florida & Massachusetts. In her younger years she was a Girl Scout Leader. She was always the first to offer help to anyone in need.
Ginny was a people person, an avid reader, gardener, baker & she loved to dance and play BINGO. She discovered her talent as an artist at Cornerstone Canton where she lived with her husband Paul for the past few years. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was known to them & their friends as “Ma Ginny.” She also enjoyed traveling and vacationing with her husband Paul, family and many friends. She was a devout Catholic and was generous with her time and resources to causes she held most dear. Some of her favorites involved children & helping families in need. Ginny lived her life to the fullest & was a shining example to her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Beloved wife of Paul Callaghan. Mother of Christine OHalloran of Canton, Cheryl Conroy & her husband Jim of Canton, and Paul M.Callaghan and his wife Susan of Wakefield. Sister of Cynthia Neville of California and Laurel Cooper of Canton. Predeceased by her parents Bill & Frances, brothers William & Kenneth and many loving brother & sister in laws. Also survived by 7 grandchildren: Andy, Ginny, Jimmy Patrick, Jessica, Paul & Brian and 6 great grandchildren: Lexi, Lainey, Colin, Liam, Cal & Carter.
Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Parish, Canton (formally known as St John the Evangelist Church) Friday morning at 10:30am. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton on Friday morning prior to mass from 8:00am to 10:00am. Burial will be at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday morning promptly at 10:15am. In lieu of flowers Donations may be made in her memory to the Canton Food Pantry 900 Washington St. Canton Ma. 02021 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org
