Obituary

Due to the impending inclement weather, the funeral service for Edwin on Saturday, January 29, 2022 has been postponed to a later date.

Edwin Lincoln Smith, 86, of Weston, died peacefully on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Emerson Hospital, Concord after a protracted battle with liver cancer.
He was born in Waltham on August 22, 1935, the son of Lincoln H. Smith and Anna (Sanders) Smith who eventually settled on family property in Weston where Eddie would become the 10th generation of Smiths to reside; a fact in which he took great and justifiable pride. Both he and his younger sister Susan Smith Merrill were graduates of Weston High School.
Eddie was a Freemason like his father and life-long member of The First Baptist Church of Weston where he was an active participant at the annual Christmas tree sales and where he was able to indulge one of his greatest passions – singing in the church choir. He was also very proud of his military service with the United States Army in the late 50’s, eventually being stationed in what was then West Germany reaching the rank of Spec/4 before coming home to further his education and start a family.
He earned his Associates Degree in civil engineering at Northeastern University and worked his entire career as a talented and respected land surveyor for Barns Engineering in Auburndale and later for Allen & Major Associates in Woburn before a well-earned retirement in 2000.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 60 years, Claire Foss Smith, his daughter Ellen Smith Pulley and husband Peter of Orange, his daughter Linda Jane Smith of Marlborough and his son David Edwin Smith and wife Denise of Westminster; his grandchildren Erin Pulley Dubois and her husband Kyle, Ian Pulley, Katherine Smith and Michael Smith; and by his great grandsons George and Anders Dubois.
He was predeceased by his father Lincoln, mother Anna, sister Susan, and grandson Nathan A. Pulley.
In addition to his family, Eddie took great delight in fishing, maintaining his ancestral property, watching old movies, researching genealogy, reading about history, and visiting American historical sights.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and hardworking medical professionals at Emerson Hospital who treated Eddie with tender loving care during his cancer treatments over the years and in his final hours.
