New Bedford - Our beloved mom, grandmother and friend Marilyn Ann Grant Nelson passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 22, 2022.
Marilyn, affectionally known as “Beema,” leaves behind her four children Peter, John, Kristen and Tom, their spouses Lisa, Jackie, Hunter, and Kathy, ten grandchildren Erica, Kendall, Nina, Sarah, Julia, Eric, Abby, Hannah, Max and Jakey, two great grandchildren Monty and Chloe, siblings Cathleen and David, and companion Ted Cioper.
Marilyn was born on August 9, 1936 to Irving and Mary “Evelyn” Grant and raised in Dartmouth, Massachusetts with siblings Robert, Daniel, Cathleen, and David. She graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1954 where she served as head cheerleader and cherished the many friends she remained in contact with throughout her lifetime.
While raising her four children she embarked on earning her degree in Sociology at Southeastern Massachusetts University, graduating in 1980 at the age of 43. Marilyn taught English and History at New Bedford Regional Vocational High School from 1983 to 2002 and was well known for the creative, fun approach she took in educating the students she cherished.
Beema’s greatest accomplishment was her undying love for her kids, their spouses, and grandchildren, always quick to tell everyone how proud she was to be part of their lives. Prior to her passing Beema said “I cast a vote for survival.” This conviction will live and “survive” in our hearts as we remember our mom, grandmother, and dear friend.
Marilyn's visiting hours will be held on February 11th, 2022 from 10am-12pm at Perry Funeral Home with a service to take place at Noon. Burial services to be held privately.
