Obituary

SPENCER: Charles H. Meloche Jr. died on Wednesday, January 19th at the age of 90. He was a lifelong resident of Spencer and the son for Charles “Dutchy” Meloche and Catherine (Nolan) Meloche. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Doneilo) Meloche in 2011. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Wentworth and her husband Wayne of North Smithfield, RI; his son, Michael Meloche and his wife Kelly of Spencer, MA; his son, Christopher Meloche and his wife Catherine of Webster MA; granddaughter Elizabeth (Wentworth) Guido and her husband Vincent and their sons Dominic and Salvatore; grandson Brian Meloche of Milton, VT; grandson Kevin Meloche of Dudley, MA; granddaughter Sarah Meloche of Framingham, MA; grandson Andrew Meloche and fiancé Anna Forman of Nashville, TN; grandson Jacob Meloche of North Andover, MA; and his sister Ann (Meloche) Loftus of Spencer, MA.

He was a graduate of David Prouty High School in 1948, Holy Cross College in 1952, and Harvard Law School in 1955. He then received his Naval Officer’s Commission at the Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, RI. Charlie and Betsy then spent three years at the Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where their daughter, Kathleen, was born.

Charlie began practicing law in Spencer, MA until his retirement in 1996, the last twelve years in partnership with his son, Michael. He was a long term Corporate Trustee, Investment Committee Member and attorney for Spencer Savings Bank, now Cornerstone Bank.

He was one of the original founders of the Spencer Rescue Squad, a former member and past President of the Spencer Exchange Club, and former Director and past President of the Spencer District Nurses Association.

He loved ocean sailing on his own sailboat, traveling along the New England coast and, in later years, golfing with his friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer, followed by burial in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer with Military Honors. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Spencer Rescue Squad, Inc., 6 Bixby Rd., Spencer, Ma. 01562 or Faith & Family Hospice, 420 Lakeside Ave., Marlboro, MA 01752.
