Obituary




John F. “Jack” Butler of North Easton died January 22, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Montella) Butler. Jack was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Cecelia E. Card Butler and George L. Butler 91 years ago.

Jack graduated from Brockton High School, class of 1949. He became a journeyman plumber at the age of 20 and after that enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. After training in Newport, he was assigned to the Navy Destroyer DD865, “The Charles Ware”, until his discharge as a 2nd class petty officer in 1954.

He resumed his career and obtained his Masters License along with Refrigeration, FS.C,HCLA, Construction and Contractor licenses. He started the John F. Butler, Inc. Plumbing and Heating Company in 1968 and in 1975 he started his mechanical company, Plymouth County Mechanical Contractors, Inc.

He met and married his true love, Elaine B. Montella in 1957. Together they had 3 daughters. He leaves behind Donna Larkin of Brockton and her fiancé Michael Gullbrants, Lauren Connelly of Stoughton and her husband Paul Connelly and Karen Butler of West Bridgewater, along with his six grandchildren: James (and Leah) Larkin of Newtown, CT, John (and Amy) Larkin of East Bridgewater, Matthew (and Amy) Larkin of Halifax, Tara Fernandes of Brockton, Michael Connelly (and fiancée Samantha Alves) of Bridgewater and Jack Connelly of Stoughton. He had 7 great grandchildren (and #8 is due within 2 weeks). They are: Zion and Jolene Fernandes, Khloe and Kolton Larkin, Adeline Larkin, and Jackson and Kaiden Larkin. He had one sibling Elaine Dickson of Florida and brother-in-law Tazewell, both deceased.

He will be missed by family and friends, particularly his inlaws Joseph and Teresa Montella, David and Laraine Montella and Susan and Joseph Saia.

Jack was a proud a member of the Brockton Rotary Club for 52 years, a lifelong member of the VFW Post #697, Whitman and Past Commadore of the Taunton Yacht Club from 1974 to 1976. Boating was his lifelong love and interest along with building homes. Most importantly, he loved family gatherings.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Thursday January 27, 2022 from 4-7 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 8:30 am for a Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church N. Easton at 10 am. Burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society (Massachusetts Chapter) 101A First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451 or the Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379.

The Butler family wishes to acknowledge the entire Team at Old Colony Hospice and, specifically, John’s nurses Jessica and Betsy for the compassion to our Dad and “his girls.”
