Raymond Francis Jelley, 94, of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022. Raymond was born the day after Christmas to Lillian M. Jelley and George H. Jelley in Lowell, MA. An outstanding athlete and graduate of Lowell High School, Raymond enlisted in the Army as a Supply Clerk shortly after graduation and was honorably discharged for his service. He went on to work for the Canada Dry Company, then eventually in advertising sales for the New England Telephone Company, where he retired after an illustrious 32-year career. Raymond will now join his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Jelley, who preceded him in 2007, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tewksbury, MA.
Raymond and Elizabeth raised their three children in Windham, NH, as 20-year residents. A generous supporter of several non-profit causes, Raymond was also the 10th Exalted Ruler or President and Executive Officer of the Derry-Salem Elks Lodge #2226. He also resided in Florida and Hawaii before returning to his place of birth, Lowell, MA, where he lived until his death. An avid fan of all New England sports teams, his first love was undoubtedly the Boston Red Sox, where he watched nearly every game on TV right up until this past season. He instilled his love of baseball into his children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter’s Gail; Elizabeth, and his son Raymond, Jr., and grandchildren James, Sharon, Shane, Howard, Michael, Stephanie, and her husband, Robert Labrie. He was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Keanu, Kona, Maite, Kyle, Autumn, Morgan, Dylan, Calvin, and Landon. Raymond also leaves behind his brother, Donald and his sister Patricia, and thirty-one beloved nieces and nephews. He will forever be in all their hearts and missed very much every day. Ecclesiastes 7:1 (KJV)
