Donna Blessing Lewis, 87, passed away on January 20, 2022 in Tifton. Mrs. Lewis was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee and lived in Huntsville, Alabama from 1957-2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Lewis; sisters Evelyn Ellis and Martha Perkinson; and brother, Kenneth Blessing. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Mary Brown of Tifton nd Kevin and Kathy Brown of Apex, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a 1952 graduate of Central High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, She was active in many organizations and always said her high school years were among the best of her life. She was a devoted mother and homemaker but also worked at Providence Insurance, in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Case IH in Huntsville, Alabama. She particularly loved working at Huntsville Hospital Hospitality House.
She was a devout Christian and longtime member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. She had a love for theatre and performed in several church and civic plays. She loved to read to nursing home residents and conducted several creative interactive programs for them. She said she needed “busy hands” and was commonly working on cross-stitching, puzzles and other seasonal arts and crafts. She loved word games and worked the newspaper Word Scrabble puzzle every day. She was the ultimate “people person” and her activities brought many people together into social settings.
A funeral service will be conducted at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama on Monday, January 24, 2022. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. with services at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
