METHUEN - Maria do Céu Medeiros (DaSilva) Brown, of Methuen, formerly of Tewksbury passed away after a very brief illness on Saturday, January 22, 2022. She was the widow of Alberto Alves Brown who passed away in 2010, after 49 years of marriage.
She was born in Faial, Azores, where she grew up and was educated. In 1960, she and her mother left the Azores, and came to the United States, settling in Somerville. She began working for Priscilla of Boston, on Newbury street, she worked there for over 30 years. During this time, with her talent and passion for dressmaking, she found herself making wedding gowns for the daughters of President Nixon, as well as Linda Johnson, the families of many heads of state, and royal families.
She made her home in Tewksbury for over 30 years, and she was a communicant of St. William’s Church. She loved to cook and bake, but most important to her was spending time with her family, whether it was at home, taking trips to Foxwoods, or shopping with her daughter in law, Lucilina, who was like the daughter she never had.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Albert Brown and his wife Lucilina of Methuen, her two grandsons, Phillip Brown and his wife Rachel of Clinton, MA, and Eric Brown and his companion Elizabeth Ruffo of Newton, MA, her great grand daughter Sophia Brown, she is also survived by her very dear close friends Jaime and Mabilia DaSilva, Maria Jose, Joao Porto, Dr and Mrs. Joseph Kelley, and her nephew Manuel Leal and his wife Nisalda.
She was predeceased by her siblings Paulina Leal, Angustias Melo, Jose Albino DaSilva, and her nephew and niece Joseph Leal, and Luisa DaSilva.
All are welcome to attend her visitation on Wednesday morning from 10:30 until 11:30 at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St, Tewksbury, MA 01876. Her funeral Mass will take place at the conclusion of the visitation at 11:30am. Followed by procession to St. Mary Cemetery for burial. Please have floral arrangements delivered to the funeral home.
