With the heaviest of hearts, we mourn the loss of our Richie. Richie fought the fight of his life with determination to beat his cancer but it wasn’t meant to be.
Sports was always a huge part of Richie’s life. As a member of the Crew Team at English High School, he was the Captain. He was also the Captain of the hockey team where he was named All Century. Honored to have been chosen to play for Boston College, Richie deservingly earned the title of Co-Captain. From Boston College, he played three years with the Bruins organization. But the love of coaching and watching his girls play sports, gave him more joy than anything. They were his life.
Richie was the Assistant Superintendent of cleaning and maintenance for the MBTA.
Richie is the loving son to the late Mae and George F. Hart, Jr. and son in law to Pat Ward. He is the beloved husband of Mary (Ward) Hart who he spent a lifetime with and father to Michelle of Malden and Kimberly and her fiancé Dave Callinan of Malden. He is the beloved brother of Paula Hart and her partner Michael Tibbetts, Dr. John Ward and Lori, Patrick and Marie, Kevin and his late wife Marlena, Dr. Chris Loukiatis and Virginia, Jim, Regina, Trish and David Hopfenberg, Michael, Tom and Karina and the late Donna and George F. Hart, III and his many most special nieces and nephews.
We wish to thank the countless family and friends, near and far, who helped support us throughout our journey, his teams of doctors at MGH and Spaulding Rehab, the staff of Lunder 9 who helped Richie pass peacefully and pain free, and a very special thank you to Erika Barrett Meneely, APRN-BC, whose unwavering support navigated us through every obstacle we faced.
“He fought a good fight. He finished his course. He has kept the faith.”
If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
