Laverne McCranie Hogan, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, January 22, 2022, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, January 24, 2022, at Crossview Baptist Church, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in Big Creek Cemetery, Irwin County.
Mrs. Hogan was born June 25, 1930, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late John Carl & Hildred Irene Walton McCranie. She was a secretary for engineer H.G. “Cowboy” Smith, whose bridge company was responsible for constructing the first bridge to span the Ocmulgee River at Jacksonville. She was a bookkeeper for the Department of Family and Children’s Services. She was also a homemaker and loved her grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed crocheting and needle point and was an amazing cook. She was a founding member of the former Northside Baptist Church where she taught the Nancy Gordon Sunday school class for many years and served on several committees. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church, the Seekers Sunday school class, and was active in the Golden Believers. She will be remembered as a simple, humble, Christian lady who loved her family and her church.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses: Lee & Lisa Hogan and Len & Dene’ Hogan, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Lexi Hogan Vickers & Brady, Ty Hogan, and Hadlee Hogan; two sisters: Marianne Whitaker of Thomson and Bonita & Anthony James of Phenix City, Alabama; and a sister-in-law, Nina McCranie of Fayetteville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Hogan as well as four brothers and two sisters.
