Eleanor G. (Shea) Cournoyer, age 96, of North Easton passed away January 17, 2022. She was the loving wife for 70 years of the late Robert V. Cournoyer who passed in 2018.
Eleanor was born in Brockton, daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (Hennessey) Shea. She often spoke fondly of her time in Whitman as a child with her Nana Henny. Eleanor met her husband Bob at Brockton High when they happened to be seated next to one another in senior English class. They were 1943 graduates of Brockton High School. On their honeymoon in Washington, D.C., Eleanor and Robert’s greatest personal accomplishment was decided, they would ensure all of their children would graduate college. In her own eyes, Eleanor’s greatest work was being a stay at home mother devoted to raising her six children.
Eleanor loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a fashionista at heart, and loved shopping at Macy’s and Talbots, and going out for lunch. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed family gatherings at her New Silver Beach cottage.
Eleanor is survived by her beloved children Robert Cournoyer and his wife Ellen of Venice, FL; Paul Cournoyer of Pocasset; Joan Bernstein and her husband Spencer of North Easton, David Cournoyer and his wife Debra of Mashpee, Susan Benson and her husband William of North Easton and Richard Cournoyer and his wife Christine of Southport, NC. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Erin Garrett, Kate Wallman, Sean Cournoyer, Laura and Kenneth Bernstein, Rebecca Maloney, Adam and Allyson Cournoyer, Ryan, Christopher, Elizabeth and Connor Benson, Evan and Austin Cournoyer and her “cunning” great grandchildren Alexandra, Will, Madelyn Eleanor, Haylee, Rhiannon, Addyson, Maya, Aaron, Logan, Brayden, Jackson, Lincoln, and Bowen. She was the sister of the late Virginia “Billie” Hendrick, Gordon Shea, Jr, and Gerry Shea. She also leaves behind a dear cousin, Mallie Buckley of Brockton, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation for Eleanor will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton from 9:30am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11am. Her burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. The family requests attendees wear masks.
Eleanor's funeral service will be live-streamed at 11:00am.
