Obituary

COCHITUATE: George J. Butler, 90, died peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022 in the care of his family following a period of declining health.
He was born in the family residence in Cochituate on February 25, 1931 the son of the late John P. Butler and Bridget (Doherty) Butler.
George was the husband for 44 years of the late Claire J. (Power) Butler who died on October 26, 1999.
He was the father of Kevin M. Butler and his wife Margie of Old Saybrook, CT and their children Julie Butler, Meghan Butler and Kevin Christopher Butler; Kimberly B. Tanner and her husband Jack of Franklin and their children Dean Tanner and his fiancé Olivia Jones, Ross Tanner, Grant Tanner, Chase Tanner and Jamie Tanner, George J. Butler II of Middleboro and the late Karen Butler and Timothy J. Butler. He was the brother of Lorraine Grealey of West Harwich and the late Phyllis Butler, Lillian Jean Rooney, John Butler, Richard Butler, Charles Butler and Eleanor Lorraine Butler. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and his oldest and dearest friend Charles “Buddy” Lepine of Belmont.
George has been a lifelong resident of Cochituate and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1950. George served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Marine Corps. Prior to his retirement, he served as a firefighter for over 30 years with the Wayland Fire Department. He also had several private business ventures during his lifetime, most notably as a co-owner of B & P Trucking Co.
He enjoyed hiking, spending time in Maine and was a voracious reader. George also enjoyed doing projects around his house. His greatest accomplishment was the love and devotion to his family especially being with his grandchildren.
Visitations will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt. 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 9:30 am followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Parish at ST. ZEPHERIN CHURCH, 99 Main Street (Rt. 27). Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Butler family lot in Saint Zepherin Cemetery, Bent Ave, Cochitutate Village, Wayland.
His family kindly suggest that flowers be omitted and gifts in George’s memory be sent to the Pediatric Epilepsy Program, Dr. Elizabeth Thiele, Mass. General Hospital, ACC 708,
