Dorothy H. George, 93

Dateline: Norton, MA

Dorothy H. (Cody) George, age 93, of Norton, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 17, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late John I George, who died on April 26, 2003.

Born in Binghamton, New York on May 7, 1928, she was a loving daughter of the late Albert Cody and Lina M. (Gould) Flood.

Dorothy grew up in Norwood and was a 1947 graduate of Norwood High School. She had made her home in Norton for the past twenty-eight years and previously resided in Canton for thirty years. Prior to retiring, Mrs. George had worked for over twenty-five years at Skyway Cleaners in Westwood and at Center Cleaners in Walpole for ten years.

An active member of the First Baptist Church in Norwood, she sang in the church choir, served a number of years as a Diaconate and was honored by being named Deacon Emeritus. In the 1950’s, she was a member of the Needham Sweet Adeline’s for several years, was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Norwood and also served as a former Girl Scout Leader.

Dorothy’s family, whom she loved spending time with, were truly the essence of her life. Her hobbies included singing, sewing, playing cards and relaxing and socializing with friends at the Norton Senior Center.

She is survived by her devoted children: William S. George of Holliston and Faith E. Wojdag and her husband Paul of Norton. She was the dear sister of the late Betty Clark and Richard Cody. She was the cherished grandmother of Terilyn Mauro and her husband John of Hopkinton, Robin Dabreu of Norton, Heather Dabreu of Dorchester and is also survived by her treasured 5 great grandchildren, 2 great-great granddaughters, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives are cordially invited to attend her graveside funeral service on Friday, January 21st at 2:00 P.M. at the Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West Street in Braintree. A service in celebration of her life will also be held at a later date to be announced in May.

Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Dorothy with a donation in her memory made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 85 East Concord Street, Boston, MA 02118.
