New Bedford – John Ferreira, 90, of Westport died at St. Luke’s Hospital on April 23, 2006. He was the husband of Irene C. (Amarello) Ferreira; they were married for 59 years.
Mr. Ferreira was born in Fall River, son of the late John and Anna (Cordeiro) Ferreira, and resided in Westport most of his life. He was a member of the Third Baptist Church, Fall River. He was employed by Stop & Shop for over 25 years as a meat cutter and later by Ann & Hope. He enjoyed working in his yard but most of all loved spending time with his wife and children.
In addition to his widow he is survived by 3 daughters: Kathleen J. DeMello, Deborah L. Dufresne and Sandra L. Britto all of Westport; a son: Joseph Ferreira; 2 brothers: Alvaro Ferreira of Westport and Arthur Garcia of Fall River; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter; and several nieces & nephews. He was father of the late John D. “Sonny” Ferreira and brother of the late Manuel Ferreira, Mary Vincent, Margaret Lopes and Angelina Perry.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.
