John J. Calderon, Jr. ("Caldo"), 78, of Ventura, CA, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2022 in Ventura.
John was born in Ventura on February 16, 1945 to Seferino and Angelina Calderon (deceased). He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Ignacio, Paul, and Jess Calderon; four sisters: Margret Ramirez, Trini Santiago, Norberta Guerro, and Nellie Calderon.
From 1967 to 1969, John began his federal service career with an enlistment in the US Army, serving with distinction in Vietnam. In 1987, John was hired at Pacific Missile Test Center, Point Mugu, CA, as an Electroplating Worker Helper in the Design and Prototype Division. In this division, he assisted in the use of chemical processes to plate and coat metal surfaces. In 1990, he became part of the Weapons Instrumentation Division in which he began a new career inn the field of electronics. He then became an Electronics Mechanic. After 14 years of dedicated service to the Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division, and the Department of Defense, on November 19, 1999, John retired from the Government of the United States of America.
John was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura. He spent his free time doing the things he enjoyed and loved, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, and golfing with family or even just by himself. He also spent one day of the week (Thursdays) playing card games and making memories, laughing, and joking with his friends ("The Guys"). John ("Caldo") was very well known by many people, several of whom enjoyed the same hobbies as he did. He will always be remembered for the Good Man he was - a big sense of humor, always joking with his well loved family. He showed his strength and affection with tough love, never settling for anything for anything less than to try our best! ("We will miss you, Gramps!")
John is survived by his wife, Suzanne Calderon, of Ventura; three siblings: Charles Calderon, of Oxnard, Ramona Calderon, of Ventura, and Chennie Chapparo, of Camarillo; five children: Frances Calderon, Johnny J. Calderon, Maryann Calderon, all three of Oxnard, Michael Calderon and his wife Jen, of Camarillo, and Gabriel Calderon and his wife Francine, of Camarillo; his step-children: Carlos Dominguez, Yvette Hernandez, Melissa Knupple, and Laura Cornejo; 12 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 4pm to 9pm on Friday, January 21, 2022 in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura. A Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 22, 2022 in the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard.
