Barbara “Sue” Akins Copeland, 82, of Kathleen, formerly of Enigma, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at The Lodge in Warner Robins. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Copeland at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Tift Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Steve Hand will officiate.
Born May 24, 1939, in Enigma (Berrien County), Mrs. Copeland was the daughter of the late Roy Akins and Audrey Henderson Akins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joel Milton Copeland, Sr.; two brothers; and two sisters. She retired as Assistant Vice President from Tifton Federal Savings and Loan and she was a member of Enigma Baptist Church.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joel M. Jr. and Renee Copeland of Alapaha; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy C. and Mitch Smith and Susan C. Tucker, all of Kathleen; one brother, Harold “Sonny” Akins of South Carolina; one sister, Peggy Lastinger of Brunswick; her grandchildren and their spouses, Eve and Jeremy Brechbiel, Tyler and Crystal Copeland, Lacey and Korey Merritt, Audrey and T. J. Powell, Adam and Shannon Smith, Brett Smith and Hannah Tucker; and her great-grandchildren, Abby Laine and Kole Merritt, Presley Joe Merritt, James Arthur Guevara, Camdyn Blake Smith, Annistyn Claire Smith, Cadence Hope Copeland, Tyler Jace Copeland, Brayden River Copeland and Beau Thomas Powell.
