Edward Collins, 73, a longtime resident of Wilmington and beloved husband of Andrea (Cortese) Collins, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Friday, January 14th, 2022.
Born in Cambridge and raised in Woburn MA, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Doherty) Collins. After graduating from UMass Boston with an English degree, Ed chose a career in Technical Writing and worked as an independent contractor throughout most of his life. He greatly enjoyed his work and became a very skilled technical writer over the length of his career. In his spare time, he was an avid reader, a lifelong runner and devoted Boston Bruins fan. During the last season of his life, Ed found his way back to the Catholic faith. He became deeply devoted to his long time Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence. He formed many cherished friendships at Sacred Heart and cared greatly for his fellow parishioners and the Sacred Heart Religious Community. Above all else, Edward was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and new Grandson, Liam. Ed was also an Army veteran, passionate about his Irish heritage and had a great love and appreciation for all genres of music. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, Andrea, he is survived by his loving children; Eric Collins of Derry, NH, Matthew Collins and his wife Heather of Salem, NH, Brittany Collins of Burlington, MA, Grandson Liam, sister and brother-in-law; Kathy and Ralph Shea of Wilmington, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late James Collins, Nancy Dell, Eileen Cassidy, Mary Collins, and Jackie (John) Collins.
