Dennis “Boomer” Hayden, 68, of Plymouth passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2022.
He is survived by his wife Miriam “Mimi” Hayden (Amendola) and his children Jay (Julie Chan) Hayden of East Longmeadow, Matthew (Sasha Pogiba) Hayden of Plymouth, and Lindsay (Kevin) Runey of Middleborough. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Emilia, Josephine, Shane, and a soon-to-be born granddaughter.
Dennis was born on March 8, 1953 to the late James “Boomer” and Carolyn (O’Loughlin) Hayden and grew up in Hopkinton, where he attended Hopkinton High School. A strong salesman, he started his own insurance agency beginning in his young adulthood and built it into a successful business.
Dennis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and lobstering. He could be found in the woods in fall and deep sea fishing for Striped Bass or pulling his lobster traps throughout the summer. He wrote for the outdoor publication, Woods and Waters New England, for several years and served as President of the Massachusetts Bowhunters Association for over 20 years.
Hunting, business, and leisure trips brought Dennis to all parts of the world. He enjoyed meeting new people, trying new foods, and exploring new places.
Dennis was generous, strong, stubborn, and hard-working. His sense of humor and large personality made him unforgettable. He always had a joke at the ready and could make most everyone laugh.
As a loyal sports fan, Dennis attended many Patriots and Red Sox games with his family and friends. He could often be found dressed In a sports jersey watching a game on television.
Dennis loved a dry martini, straight up, with three olives and a big plate of veal parmigiana. He was a bit of a wine and cigar connoisseur and appreciated good food, drink, and company.
Dennis was a big family man. Visits with his children and grandchildren brought him so much joy.
A memorial service is planned for the spring.
