Obituary

“Boston Retired Boston Fire Department Lieutenant Robert J. "Bosshog" Sullivan, a resident of Kingston, New Hampshire and formerly of Charlestown and Everett, entered into eternal life suddenly on Friday, January 14, 2022 at his home. He was 79 years of age.

Bosshog was born in Boston on August 5, 1942, a son of the late Daniel Sullivan and Anne (Flynn) Sullivan. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1960. Bosshog was appointed to the Boston Fire Department on January 17, 1968 and was assigned to Engine Company #22 in the South End of Boston. He was promoted to Lieutenant on December 15, 1976 and was later assigned to Engine Company # 11 in East Boston. On August 28, 1982 he was transferred as Lieutenant to Engine Company # 9 in East Boston. On October 1, 1992 he was transferred as Lieutenant to Marine Unit #2 and served there for the next 14 years. He retired as an Acting Captain on Marine Unit # 2 on March 31, 2006 following 38 years of dedicated service to the City of Boston. He was a retired member of The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718.

Bosshog was a former owner of The Old Sully's in Charlestown for many years. He was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, Everett and Saugus B.P.O.E. Lodge # 642, Kingston, New Hampshire V.F.W. Post and Plaistow, New Hampshire American Legion Post. He was also a founding member of The Charlestown Lions Club. In his spare time following his retirement from The Boston Fire Department, Bosshog enjoyed traveling to Aruba and Marco Island, Florida and listening to his country music.

Bosshog is the husband of 54 years to Diane M. (Skidmore) Sullivan. He is the devoted father of Donnalyn Sullivan, Robert J. Sullivan Jr. and his wife Christine, Susan J. Sullivan-Velazquez and her husband Frankie and Scott Sullivan and his wife Tarah. He is the loving Papa to Robert, Frankie, Sean, Samantha and Jacob. He is the beloved brother of Margaret "Peggy" Watts, Helen Cotter, Judy Burns and the late Eileen Kelly, Ann Marie Winkler, John "Jack" Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, Edward Sullivan, Albert Sullivan, Gerald Sullivan and William Sullivan. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bosshog's visiting hours on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. followed by his Funeral Service at 1 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial is private.
