WINDHAM - Nelson De Jesus Fernandez, age 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep on 1/12/22 at the Gosnell House in Scarborough Maine surrounded by family after a 9-month battle with stomach cancer.
He was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela on August 10, 1947, a son of Adelis and Raquel Fernandez. At age 18 he joined the Venezuelan Navy and served for 2 years. He then came to the United States at age 20 to attend Cummings School for auto mechanics. After finishing school he traveled to Maine and settled down.
Nelson was an extremely talented and inventive individual and tireless worker. Throughout the years he worked in auto mechanics, truck driving and construction. He had an amazing ability to fix just about anything and enjoyed spending time tinkering in his garage.
His passion was helping those he loved and bringing joy to them with his charismatic personality. He was a dedicated father and friend.
He loved baseball and passed that passion on to his son and grandson.
He gave all of himself to his family and friends and for that we are forever grateful. Upon hearing the news of his condition he said the first thing he asked himself was if he was a good father, no question he was as good as they come.
Nelson is survived by his children Anthony Fernandez and Chelsea Harth, and grandchildren Philip, Alex, Lilian and Elena, sisters Yajaira, Edith and Belkis and brothers Alexis, Adelis Jesus, and Gregorio.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday Jan. 18 from 2 – 4 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. Burial will be in the spring. The family kindly requests mask wearing
