CHICOPEE – Margaret E. (Kirby) Goonan McLane, 90, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home after a brief illness, on Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was born in Westfield on March 24, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Edward W. and Margaret E. (Alderman) Kirby. She was raised in Westfield, moved to Chicopee in 1952 where she lived for most of her life. Margaret was a member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club in Springfield where she was a member and Secretary of their Women’s Auxiliary. She was very proud of her Irish Catholic heritage and was especially fond of Irish dancing. She enjoyed long walks, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Goonan who was Called Home in 2009; and her second husband, Francis McLane who was Called Home in 2021. She leaves her eight devoted children and their spouses, Margaret, John, Peter (Lisa), Noreen, Michael (Michelle), James (Sylvie), Deborah and Christopher (Peggy); her 24 cherished grandchildren; her 26 cherished great grandchildren; her two brothers, Mike (Jeannie) and John (Linda); her two sisters, Betty (Eddie) and Kathy; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Bill. Her Funeral will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Mary Cemetery, 203 Southampton Road, Westfield, MA 01085. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
