Mary E. (Farrell) Volin, 84, died Friday, April 21st at UMass Medical Center from injuries suffered in a car accident earlier that day.
Her husband of 56 years, William A. Volin, died in November 2003.
She was born in Pittsfield on December 30, 1921, daughter of Dr Joseph W Farrell and Frances (McLaughlin) Farrell and lived in Worcester since 1953. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1939 and Manhattanville College in 1943. She received a Master of Education degree from Worcester State College in 1972 and was a reading teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for 17 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the Mass Retired Teachers Assoc, the Women’s Guild of Christ the King Church, Our Lady of Providence Guild, Manhattanville College Alumnae Assoc, the Friday Afternoon Club and the Worcester Art Museum. She leaves her children, Maryliz O’Brien of Worcester, William A Volin Jr of Spencer, Regina Atchue of Grafton, 6 grandchildren, her brother, Dr Joseph W Farrell Jr of Pittsfield and 9 nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April, 27 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10am in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. A committal will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 26, from 4 to 7pm at the funeral home.
