CHICOPEE – Joseph J. “Joe” Hanecak, Jr., 79, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, January 9, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on September 17, 1942, a beloved son of the late Joseph J. and Simone M. (Theroux) Hanecak. He was raised and educated in Holyoke where he lived for most of his life and moved to Chicopee in 2019. He served his country during Vietnam in the United States Coast Guard and attained the rank of Seaman Recruit. He was the Owner and Operator of Riverside Auto Sales in Chicopee. He previously was employed at the former Uniroyal Manufacturing in Chicopee and J.J. Towing and Auto Sales in Holyoke. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Rosalie (Roby) Hanecak who was Called Home on June 28, 2019. He leaves his three loving children, Kenneth Hanecak and his wife, Patricia, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Sherry Dion of Chicopee, and Jody L. Maslak and her husband, Brian, of Chicopee ; his six cherished grandchildren, Justin Hanecak, Crystal Hanecak, Corinne Bonneville and her husband, David, Jourdain Dion, Derek Dion, and Amber Maslak; his four cherished great grandchildren, Justin Hanecak, Jr., Christopher Hallett, Jasmine Bonneville and Travis Bonneville; his cherished great great granddaughter, Ivy Hanecak; his dear brother, Henry Avery and his wife, Judith, of Chicopee; his two dear sisters, Darlene Avery and Carol; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. His Committal Service with United States Coast Guard Military Honors will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
